That's kind of dark, even for Castlevania.
I liked it better when he was loosely based on Vlad the Impaler.
That was the point of Lords of Shadow: a take on Dracula that, while no doubt a villan, is more of a tragic character.

The thing is that Dracula/Gabriel is disappointed on us, humans, he lost his beloved one and now the very order to which he belonged is now against, he feels more than betrayed by that, and now the irony is that he's our only hope to stop Satan from bringig the end of all things to our world, can't wait to see how this will end.
