I know the feeling. Mig-31 is too big and fast for the tunnel though 
I think I hit about 1000+ in that tunnel and when I hard to turn I was freaking out
true, I went full throttle at the straight part of the tunnel, after levelling the plane with auto pilot
I remember thinking "Try and get me now Hamilton!" on that part. And it also ended up screwing up Bartlett's timing too, cause I had passed him before he said 1.
I actually did manage to turn around and tried to get Hamilton, guess what? It was not a plane, the bullets were merely coming from a point. I used x-29 and with careful manoeuvre and speed you can actually turn around in the tunnel sections. You will face another problem though, the shutters get closed once you pass them so you will crash and will not get hamilton because it does not exist. I believe the designers did not think that we would be that crazy to try it out 
Wow that's a surprise. Of course they didn't think someone would be crazy enough to do that turn. That's why in the briefing they specifically said 'You can only hit one control center per run' implying you can't turn around.
