You'd like the original series also as the new series just picks up after where the old one left off. Companions are always temporary. However, they're doing a bit of a better job with them than the old series. In the old series, companions were overly loyal usually resulting in their demise before they even had the chance to decide they need a break from the perils and dangers. Besides -- the way both Rose and Martha exited seems to indicate we'll be seeing both of them again.

Parrelel realities can always be re-visited and Martha even said she will be seeing the Doctor again.

Both are open doors for future episodes for both characters.

I've seen every episode of Doctor Who, even the old ones. ^^ I forgot the sidekicks name but she was brought back in that school episode with Rose. Even K-9 came back. >w<

I got a working darlek for my birthday. XD

Ah yes, good ole K-9. lol ... at least no one got shrunk in that episode but there was of course the usual impending doom looming over everyone. lol
