Have you tried Luminance? (Not a critic, or that you would need it 
) It's free. The Mantiuk 06 Algorithm is often softer than Photomatix, which I have too.
I use both, but more Luminance now. Otherwise I am stuck with PS 6. Not CS 6. Hammer and Chisel stuff.

Yeah. Gives you variety. Although besides Mantiuk 06, I haven't really used the others. After my initial HDR madness, I try to get images softer these days. PunkDiva does too. Especially Halos in the Sky are now my sworn enemy.
