I'm a new member and was randomly browsing the group's folder and found this poem.
I love everything war-related, novels, poetry, etc.
And I enjoyed what you did here. I think you kept the form enough (even though it is free verse) for it to be a poem, not a prose. The message is quite straightforward - during a war it is indeed easy to forget you have a family who loves you and feel utterly alone/separated. I wonder if the feeling of solitude also came from the fact that his family/friends might not understand what it means to fight and fight for one's life.
I have only one constructive remark: a typo. In this line
'You’re loved one is calling out to you,' 'You're' should be 'Your' I believe.
One of my fav. war poems is
'In Flanders Fields...'. Just curious if you read it.
