Ever shot one, kid? I've handled plenty of .45s and 10mms, and all it takes is a bit of practice and not being a manorexic stickman. A Makarov is even weaker than 9mm Pansy, and that tiny barrel doesn't help much at all. There's a reason ISCP competition shooters prefer the 10mm; with a bit of training and a good compensator the performance speaks for itself. Not to mention that on a Makarov you'd HAVE to magdump, whereas with this or a .45 you can pick your shots, because all it takes is one. It's a ratio thing; sure a 9mm Pansy might put more rounds downrange, but you NEED more rounds downrange. A 10mm or .45 might not match the rate of fire in a high-stress situation (though, as mentioned before, speed-shooting competition shooters don't seem to have a problem), it doesn't need to. And 10mm Auto offers much more magazine capacity than the .45, so I can combine the best of both worlds; better knockdown and accuracy than .45, with similar magazine capacity to 9mms.

Can you say "Handloading?" What about "ISPC" or "Competition"? Or, this is a tough one, "Not having to worry about the bad guy getting up, ever"?

The .40 is better than 9mm Pansy, and offers more magazine capacity than .45 ACP. But, not being a pansy myself, I'd never want to down-load my cartridges. Down-loading is rather pointless, unless one is the aforementioned manorexic stickman. If I wanted less performance, I'd just buy a .40 S&W.
