One suggestion I would make is to try switching from nail polish to acrylic paint for painting them. Even with a sealant on top, the nail polish is gonna be more prone to chipping away. You can get the same sort of effect with the nail polish by using watered down acrylics, and then a high gloss sealant on top. Shouldn't chip at all from wearing as times goes on.
