Wow when i first saw this as i was scrolling down the page i thought 'sea creature'! I could really see you style working with inspiration from textures like anenomes (spelling?), star fish and all those beautifully coloured and textured things you get miles down below - jelly fish, lion fish, those tubular things with the frothy bits coming out......i could go on!
Beautiful as always and the frothymossy bits add a really interesting dimension to it
Oooh and i was wondering - do you have any hints about how you photograph your work - it always looks so professional and as i am working on some smaller bits (ie not full costume sized) i would love to know....do you use a cloth as background and how do you light the object? I hope you don't mind me asking! its just that my photography skills are pretty poor!
I take my pics on black surface, usually just by natural light. no harsh light preferably, so if your in front of a window, pull the lace curtain in front to difuse the light, and then I correct the image in Photoshop- and I make the b/g totally black so they float on my web/ livejournal pages [link]
Hope that helps!!
I'm a bit behind with all my comments and devwatches, and I see so many beautiful things of yours come up, so I just wanted to leave one comment, as say that as usual, I'm impressed beyond words with your beautiful creations.
Oh and meant to say - have you heard of Ernst Haeckel - drawings of all sorts of life forms from 19th century - i think his book is Art Forms in Nature - it is the most amazing and inspiring book ever!!!! I use it all the time for stuff and never get bored of the colours and details in his drawings - there is loads of really unusual things that I just can't help be inspired by!!!
thanks so much - that really helps! I'll give it a try. I have viewed your site sooooo many times, coveting what i unfortunatley cannot yet afford (the woes of a new freelancer!) but I have made a promise that with my first commission I shall order a necklace from you!!! I know you cannot exactly repeat your past pieces but would you be able to do a version of your toadstool piece when I am ready?
First off, everyone here at deviantART would like to say THANK YOU!!! We have received an overwhelming amount of enthusiasm for the launch of version 6 and believe that this has been our best-received launch to date.
You might even be one hell of a profesional, but if you don't SHOW it and PROVE it, how will everyone know? These facts are important not only when you are looking for a job, but in any situation when you wish to showcase your work. I decided to share a few guidelines that might help you give the best of yourself and help you be a better profesional.
`karemelancholia is one of the most genuine deviants you could ever met. Always active and a true deviantART cheerleader and supporter in every aspect. You can always count on her to lend a hand or get involved, and you usually will find her doing large amounts of both at any given moment. She's consistently reports on contests around dA, showcases the efforts of her fellow artists and shows her charitable side through various activities. Besides all of this, she's a truly talented artist which is why she's an obvious choice for deviousness this month. Read More
