Very true.  I sometimes find it very daunting; to look at art from other sources.  It can have an adverse effect: "Oh, I will never be THAT good.  So, I try to look at art and just enjoy it.  It also helps me improve on what I do.  I can now shade better than ever before, but still need to work on perspective.  I know I will never be as good as others, but as long as I am improving on what I can do, then there is purpose - I suppose.

*nods* i'm well aware of that, for a long time i stopped drawing because i just got annoyed that i couldn't match the skill i wanted to be.
i agree with you there. so long as you're trying and continue to improve that's good enough. even though it can be frustrating at times, as well as the dreaded art block getting in the way

If I get artist block I switch to abstract; or I try to write something.  I would like to find more time (and money) for photography but I never seem to have both at the same time.  That is, I have money but no time, or I have time and no money.  Lately it is the second option.  I think this is why I am doing more drawings lately.  It is very cheap and easy to pick up a book and a pencil and just start to draw.  Photography seems to rely on too many outside factors.  Money, time, weather; are there batteries in the camera, etc.  I still think my photography is way better than anything I can draw, but it is not as easy to just grab the camera and go for a shoot.  Ah well.
