photoshop is tricky and quite complicated, i still heavily rely on SAI for now. And that project sounds awesome! Lions have been my favourite animal for i don't know how many years! and i'll let you know if i decide to join in! 
I've heard that -- that Photoshop is tricky, at the best of times!! 
But I'm sure you'll get the hang of it.
