Maybe one of her kids isn't mean and he is a good person. But then again, it goes to nature vs. nurture.

Nature vs. Nurture is the idea that if someone's parents are bad (say they are abusive or something like that) the child is raised in a safe home environment by loving protective parents, either the kids' genes will cause them to follow in their "bad" parents footsteps or they will be good productive members of society following the teachings of the "good" parents. At least I think that's right. It's been awhile since I read up on it.
So belle is the good parent and gaston the bad one?
One would assume based on Gaston's character. But you never really know. It would be interesting to see how Gaston and Belle would interact with their children
