If by "reference" you mean tracing a copyrighted photography by David Bellemere (which you did NOT mention in the description), I don't think that's an excuse.

First off it was a hybrid of tracing and painting still having to draw to change certain things like the features and added elements. If your accusing me of tracing so what then, artists have used tools such as the camura obscura to help aid in their art, so why would the tools in photoshop be any different? Second, Im a hobbyist painter and not selling to make a profit of anykind, therefore I am not interested in ownership of these paintings I have not sold any paintings or prints at least not this one. Third I thought I changed enough elements from the painting and the photo to make it different...eh.

Changing some minor details doesn't hide the fact that you made an exact, blatant copy of another artist's work without giving him any credit whatsoever, and saying that you used your own tools or that you aren't selling your painting doesn't make it any less questionable. Do you even know the difference between using reference and tracing? Did you really think you could get away with this?

I have to agree with you. If Asidpk would have asked a permission to use this photo or _at least_ linked the photo used for tracing in the description, it wouldn't be that big deal.

To be honest, I have to wonder the amount of favourites this work has got. The brush technique is more or less crappy, colourwork is pretty poor and everything seems like just copy-pasted together. I have to give credit for the vast usage of symbolism, though.
