I think she likely wouldn't have turned out as bad if our cat Sammy hadn't passed of unknown causes back when our first dog, Tucker, was a pup. (We got Missy a little over a year after we got Tucker.) Sammy was the kind of cat who stood up to dogs and would have put Missy in her place.
The one interaction I remember most between Sammy and Tucker was when we were in the backyard, Sammy had been keeping his distance, watching, then suddenly ran by, smacking Tucker in the nose. It was like Sammy was thinking "Why do you have this dog in my yard?"
