thankyou- this is a special type of fractal [link] called IFS.
it's easy to make fractals that look like they're from nature using this type.
Once you've got the software they're easy to make, you just play around with the shapes and colours until you've got something you're happy with. Here's a list of software to play around with [link]

I think both are pretty good... this and several other 'organic' fractals I've seen today make me want to find time to futz around making some of my own now... >_<

Oh... I know about Iterated Function Systems... I wrote up code for a few of them in my graphics class... They were all the standard ones though: koch curve, snowflake, sierpinski's triangle, etc. Nothing amazingly fancy. I saw a few program names in some of the Fractal art pics I've seen recently, so I'll prolly look into toying with them at some point...

BTW, nah, I don't read xkcd... but from what I'm seeing in some of these comics... it's kinda funny. The stick figures are a tad hard to look at tho tbh... oh well.
