I've yet to read the Silmarillion. I have to finish the trilogy first
thanks so much! The Silmarillion is an AMAZING book, especially if you like Elves... It's actually my favourite. 
A good friend of mine told me it has a lot to do with elves and the creation of the world and such. I believe he said it was his favourite too. And of course I like elves is it possible not to?
