It's the Sequential department. PFFT. A lot of professors are out of the box, and they invent some out-of-the-box electives and stuff.

Yeah, that's what I do too. Make selections with the lasso tool and use the regular brush with low opacity and flow. Do you build up the value in grayscale first or do you just go straight into color? :O_o: I feel like I really need to work on color palettes. I go too crazy with the coloring and it ends up looking just... all over the place and not uniform at all.

I feel like I need to download or make some gritty brushes. :XD: Ahhh, I wish I had time to do more painting. Right now I'm taking Materials and Techniques for Sequential Art and Environments and Props for backgrounds. So I'm working on two projects right now that are do Monday and Tuesday, and one is a drawing of a creepy house in Savannah and the other is a drawing of my favorite monster. The prompts were so... so vague. I can't just draw something and not have a freaking concept behind it, so for the house I used some of the info I've gotten about ghosts and stuff (like how people would cement broken glass to their roof or paint the ceiling or their porch blue or put the window frames on upside down to keep ghosts and bad spirits away) and I'm going to color the ceiling of the porch blue and leave the rest in grayscale and have some... spirit looking things floating next to the house because they can't get in. And for the monster, I don't really have a favorite monster, but I was terrified of mummies as a kid, so I'm drawing an egyptian burial chamber with a mummified child who's come to life, sitting in his tomb, bored out of his mind because he's stuck there and can't go outside.

...

I feel like I'm in over my head. Pfft. But then, I look at my roommate who's doing 2D animation classes right now, and I'm like... "THIS ISN'T SO BAD." :XD:

That's kinda cool XD I remember you saying something about a "Head Construction Class" or something. :o That's like... a REALLY specific class, lol!

Well, when it comes to painting things, I can't just guess which colors are the correct ones to use or not. Cuz like you said, I end up using a lot of different colors and it looks all over the place and stuff. So what I do is I just find photos on google that resemble the kind of colors and lighting I want in my painting and I just pull the colors from there ^^; Idk is that cheating, or being resourceful? lol!

Oh my gosh, your projects sound fun :lmao: I had no idea people did that to their houses to keep the bad spirits out! That's so weird! Where did you hear that?

Aww the mummy kid... that's adorable. Will you be putting these things on dA for us to see?

OMG I'm doing a 2D animation class right now.... DX WHICH REMINDS ME. I need to find a 30 second audio clip cuz for our midterm project we need a 30 second animation :iconwthplz:..... Jesus take the wheel.

I know! :lmao: I think it was a small class though. Just an elective.

Oh, that's really cool. :O_o: No, I don't think it's cheating, it's being resourceful. Always use resources. LOL
I might have to try that one day. XD;

I heard it from my professor. And it's true! You can walk around downtown Savannah and if you look at some of the older houses, the porch ceilings will be blue or they'll have broken glass cemented to the roof or the top of a wall. And I think there's maybe one house here that literally has upside-down windows. :lmao:

I might. I usually don't put up my school work, but mainly because I'm ashamed of it. Lmao But these are turning out pretty decent, so I might put them up.

Dude, animation is my passion, like... like working on SOMETHING to do with animation (not actually the animating part, but background work) but those classes literally scare me. I tried working with Maya once and my brain was like, "LOLNOPE." And 2D? Hell no, I don't have nearly enough patience to do that. At all.

I was going to major in animation until I took some workshops and realized I hate animating. :XD: But I still want to work on the process part of it, just more like... storyboards, concept art, or character designs. That's why I'm in sequential art.

But because I'm in that department, I have to learn a lot about comic books. Which I don't mind, it's just not what I'm interested in.

Oh ok XD I was like DANG that school really wants to emphasize on everything.

Ok :lmao: I thought it was resourceful.

Oh wow... that's weird... Like how old are these houses?... And how do people think that cementing glass to your ceiling and flipping your windows upside down will keep away ghosts? Lol!

Yeah I know what you mean. I don't really put up my school work either cuz it's mostly just exercise work, not actual pretty drawings or paintings and stuff.

There are few who really do have the patience to animate XD I think I might have that patience.... but I need to practice that patience a lot. We'll see what happens this quarter. But yeah, i really enjoy storyboarding and just doing concept art and stuff. I'm not sure what I want to do.

MAN 3D programs in general just intimidate me :noes: They're so complicated! I really want to learn them eventually, but... holy crap my brain hurts every time I take a 3D class. Like I LITERALLY get a headache from all the crap I'm having to learn.

You have to be smart to do 3D animation.... like you have to be SMART.

Sequential Art? Cool. It seems to me that your school really likes to separate everything as suppose to putting everything into one general major. Like whether you want to be an actual animator or not, you have to take animation classes at my school. You have to take everything. There's only one Media Arts and Animation major and everyone in that major has to take the same classes. There are no other majors that branch off from animation or anything.

Well I guess comic books do have a lot to do with sequential art :XD:
