Why bend the rules to satisfy a single person?
Temporarily ignoring his 'I want items naow!' Outburst, I think he may have touched on the makings of a relatively good idea.
A possible way to make it believable would be to have a group of shady rare item collectors who come around on an extremely irregular basis (say, once a year?) and sell old, lost items for a ludicrously high fee (15 points?). This would give newcomers the chance to obtain items they would normally be unable to obtain without making it too unfair or unreasonable to older members.
But again, 'just deal with it' seems reasonable enough to me.
There is always a chance for members to get unavailable accessories. So far, it has only happened once, but I'm sure at a random point in time, such an offer will come up again.
