People like to bitch. It's unfortunate, but your anger is totally warranted. And I'd have to agree with your opinion; the first generation is probably the weakest in terms of concept. RSE/DPPt will probably always be my favorites for this reason. I felt a lot more life coming out of the regions' Pokémon and I really think this was when Nintendo was starting to come out of it's shell a little bit more and have a bit more fun with the creative process.
