Have you seen the LA article on how much the copies were sold from its release date to today (It was discussed with the announcement of Disney Infinity)? It says that a person from NPD reports that EM2 bombed by selling only 270,000 copies for all platforms, 1 million less than the Wii-exclusive first game. That is bad news indeed, which may put EM3 into doubt of green-lite.

While I like EM2 for its Disney nostalgia, music (though if any character besides the Mad Doctor have their own numbers), and voice-over performances (significant characters), I agree with those who find the game disappointing in gameplay, camera, game design, bad use of co-op on AI Oswald, and a predictable storyline (it's not worse, just not as good as the first one). I do however find the concept of the Epic Mickey series to be my favorite because of Mickey's return to his full-fledged mischievous personality, Oswald's comeback as Mickey's older, arrogant and technie brother, and the world of the Wasteland and its forgotten concepts and characters.

Don't get your hopes up for EM3 for next usually 2 years since Disney Interactive Studios is focusing on Disney Infinity, the one "Skylander-esque" game that will get the game studio back into profits. For this game to fail in sales due to bad word of mouth, marketing choices, rushed schedule for the holiday, and accurate mistakes critics and core gamers catched upon, that's unfortunate for the fans who supported it, Junction Point, and Warren Spector. I used to trust him after much hype, but now, I feel sorry and ashamed of him being in a position of failure to bring as much potential to the franchise as he can.

Apparently if the series is discontinued, and Disney shuts down Junction Point, it may have the sense of beauty to be a forgotten series, hence the concept of the forgotten Wasteland, ironic eh? Spector better comment on his views of why he didn't fix the problems from the first to the second, and listen closely to gamers, Disney fans, and critics' complaints to make it better, same goes to Disney who may have rushed production by the holiday season. If not, I'll have to send a fanmail to his address with these questions for him to answer at his leisure.

So yeah, I am disappointed in the sales performance, gameplay flaws in EM2, and how much hate the series has gotten from the gamers, critics and those who couldn't finish the game. But I like the concept of it, the familiar Disney atmosphere, and Oswald's return (good that he has Rabbit ears in Disneyland). Lots of potential would have been possible, but the sales are putting Epic Mickey on limbo. At least it inspires me to draw, appreciate older Oswald shorts, and keep up with my interests into doing animation learning.

So in a nutshell, EM3 may be on hiatus, or cancelled due to bad sales, unless further news come in officially. As for my reflections, I am excited for further development of Epic Mickey in its fanservice, and worried over how the execution turns out for EM2 and future titles if ever announced.

They did fix the problems from the first game.
