[link] I suggest you read this, but if you feel uncomfortable with clicking it, I'll a couple of the posts that interested me.

1. People say: Oh so you know that emo?
me: Emo is a genre of music. And it does NOT include MCR and bands alike. SCENE is the style. And this is stereotyped name-tags bullcow cake anyways.
People: But how is then the person that has that black hair and cuts himself all the time called??
*facepalm*

2. it's not, but then people steriotype others into this category or "emo" because they are differnet etc and they feel they need to call them something? and then these people who are categorised then must think oh i must be that! that's just my view though

I will consent that the points that you have made are true. "emo" is indeed a music genera and most people do only know them for their stereotypes. However you strayed from the original topic at hand. You said and I quote, "Emo and Goth are tastes in fashion, not a lifestyle." but the comment and reasoning that you just displayed was very one sided, only reiterated the negative look on stereotypes, and the definition of the word "emo".
The original topic is the distinction between the groups "emo" and "goth" and weather they are a lifestyle or simply a taste in fashion. I have found two articles that expresses the differences in a non prejudice way:
1)[link] here it is explained the difference of the two's music, views, and history.
2)[link] scroll down to the comment by Xapphire (panda picture). Xapphire explains that both are their own ways of life. Like, Goths typically hate society because they don't/don't want to conform to society deems "normal" and prefer to group together to create their own society of sorts. Emo people on the other hand feel as though the world is to difficult and "hates" them and some (not all) cut as a way to release.
Now do recall what I said originally as well that my view was from my personal experience, as in I had friends that use to "wander in the darker side" and a couple of them did cut (they have gotten help and moved on). I also know that there will be people who agree and disagree depending on how they are and their experiences.

I guess different people have different views on what the words, "Emo" and, "Goth" mean. I apoligize if I insulted you, that was not my intention. I simply disagree with you though.

I don't feel offended but do wish to know in what way do you disagree?

We both have differing opinions on what "Emo" and "Goth" means.

Like what? We both agreed that it was originally just a music type and that they are very misunderstood. So what in particular do you not agree upon? Other than that I believe it to also be a way of life not just fashion.
