You can download Assassin's Creed first, but PLEASE don't get all like "It's goring, nah" because it's old game and it actually IS pretty boring after......... FEW HOURS. XD ~
But the second one is all like lajdsklasjkldsja AND you meet Leonardo da Vinci IN PERSON :UU
Background story... well it's the very beginning of the game, so I guess I can tell ya .
Malik, Kadar (Malik's younger brother) and Altair were on a mission to get Arc of the Covenant . Then Robert de Sable (Templars' leader) shows up, and as Altair totally hates him, he decides to not follow the Creed (Assassins' ultimate rules) and don't be discreet, he simply goes down, being sure he'll deffeat Robert . But then de Sable stops him and throws him out of the room, the wall after him crashes, and you (as Altair) are left with nothing more to do than just stare at the rubble and listen to the sounds of Templars fighting Malik and Kadar (they were right behind you) . You come back to Masyaf, where the Assassin's err.. Fortress (? XD) is, and Al Mualim (YOUR leader) is all mad at you for failing the mission and letting two of your brothers (I mean the creed brothers, not real ones) die .
But then Malik shows up, with left arm whole in blood, and he says not everything is lost, as he has what they were supposed to get, but the price was big - his brother, Kadar, died. Of course Malik blames Altair for EVERYTHING, though he has right to .
Then Templars attack Masyaf and you're supposed to defend it, you of course succeed, but then Al Mualim "kills you" to show how the traitors o the creed are punished .
HOWEVER, you wake up later, as a Novice (Altair at the beginning of the game was the highest rank Assassin, I guess, but then you're back to Novice rank, and through the game you're getting this highest rank back) and you are given nine important Templars to kill, "a nine lives for your own."

When you appear in one of the cities, you meet Malik as a rafiq ... his left arm is gone, and he's of course all angry with Altair, keeps calling him Novice, and all .
There's this "pretty" quote of them:
A: Peace and safety, Malik .
M: Your presence here deprives me of both .
Well, that was the first thing . They were rivals at the beginning, but then after what happened Malik started hating Altair, who wanted to still be friends with him . You know, people often pair up people who hate each other xD;
But then there were few more things, though I won't spoil >u>Malik with time forgave Altair buuuuuuuuut there's still more, ya better play the game
