Yes, unusually for me I did have something very specific in mind, this thing by Stefan Sagmeister: [link] But as always I had about ten reference photos open so I don't follow any one thing too closely. What was haunting me about Sagmeister's photo was the closeness of the cropping and that sort of almost maybe smirk and upturned eyes.
