If I were the crew, I wouldn't be afraid of voicing her again, they already knew that angering bronies is far more dangerous than just a measly few parents and haters. So far, there wasn't any organization yet alone FCC sent a C&D letter to the crew to throw out Derpy. So it should be ok, which I hope they don't hide themselves like cowards and try again.

It's not a fear of parents so much as it is Amy Keating Rogers being offended at the idea that the word "Derpy" means a mentally retarded person. She has a mentally challenged son named Soren (Soarin), and she couldn't take the knowledge that she had unwittingly taken part of what was viewed by some as a negative portrayal of a mentally challenged person. Whether or not Derpy is mentally retarded (I see her more as an adult child who happens to be clumsy), the fact remains that she saw Derpy this way and had her changed. Regardless of your own feelings toward Derpy, it's hard to criticize someone for trying to correct a social stigma towards any group of people, especially if that person has a son who is stigmatized.

I prefer the whole idea of clumsy, but if we want to portray someone who is mentally retarded, that will be Screwball, which she is not a big mascot like Derpy and moreover, we didn't ask for Screwball to play and also it's going to cause a bigger crisis than Derpy if she voices or plays a role.

Well, it is pretty sad to hear. But honestly, Derpy's official voice sounded like already a mother while the Youtube version makes her sounds younger. :)

Yeah, I agree. AKR's main source of offense was in the name Derpy, which means (among other things) someone who is "slow." At least that was what her research turned up when she got those emails. She did say that she got 200 emails of praise for every 10 emails of vitriol, but those bad emails stung every time she saw one, much less opened it, because of her son. I should also make it clear that while she did get offended at it, it was Hasbro's decision to cut it in the end result. But I do feel for Amy, because if I had a son with that condition, I'd probably be a little sensitive to the issue, too.

I honestly prefer "clumsy" to "mentally retarded," because, well, that's just the feeling I got from the character. Her eyes being that way is a real medical condition, but the way she was voiced just made me love her to death because it just felt right for the character. Funny story: the "ditzy" voice that was used in the edited version is actually what Amy Rogers had in her head when she wrote the dialogue, and Tabitha St. Germain misinterpreted it as a boy's voice.

That is just sad, although it makes me wonder, why did she want to voice Derpy in the first place if she is pretty uncomfortable with it in the first place?

Me too, out from the characters who I believe are clumsy, I like Goofy & Ed (Ed, Edd & Eddy) and they portray well for Derpy, although it's Ed being a lot more wacky and funny.

The Tabitha one or was it the edited one to replace the iTunes copy, I already forgotten how it sound like even though I already watched it, if we want someone like the one in Youtube, we could try again on Tara Strong, she did sounded like Timmy Turner before, right? Any high pitch voice characters from different shows are perfect for Derpy, just like how I remembered "I brought you a letter!", that was my first Derpy voice I ever heard and still remember it till today.

She saw Derpy the same way we saw her: just a clumsy mare who happened to have an eye condition, which probably exacerbated her clumsiness. It was when she saw the definition of the name that she saw Derpy in a new light and wanted her changed. It's sad, but I guess when you have a son with that condition and see disturbing similarities in a character you helped flesh out, you'd probably be disgusted as well.

FWIW, I think Derpy is a lot like Goofy, and I hope they'll continue to use her again.

Tabitha did the first voice, but I'm not sure who did the second one. TSG said she did it that way the first time because she thought Derpy was a boy, so she gave her a masculine, yet boyish voice.

That's why I said it clear in the beginning, why want to voice it when you're not comfortable with it?!

All in all, I wish the next season we can voice her again and ignore the haters. Hating her won't do much, same case how the haters hate Spongebob and yet nothing wrong happened to him. Unless if there's some major protest or some handicap organization or FCC gets involve, then we'll understand. But in that case, Hasbro should not be afraid of the Derpy haters, voice her again and then it'll be all over and let the haters bear with her. After all, a childish adult Spongebob is far worse than just the wall-eyed clumsy Derpy.

Amy was the *writer*, not the voice actress. She also was perfectly fine with it in the beginning, and was only made aware of it through emails from disgruntled fans. Tabitha St. Germain had nothing to do with the decision, either.

Hasbro isn't afraid of the Derpy haters. They *agree* with them, because they don't want to be seen as making fun of disabled people, regardless of whether or not they really would be.
