The only time I've been allopreened was by the lorikeets at the Oregon Zoo (adorable birds)....and they attempted to preen my ear and my eyebrow. I miss those birds. I need to visit them next time I'm back in Portland.

I get it fairly often from Squirrel (one of my cockatiels). I love having parrots.

That's a cute name for a cockatiel.
I wouldn't mind having a parrot. Not in the right living situation to properly care for one right now though.

I'm not sure why he was named that - it's the name he came with. He'd been through a few homes before ours. But, it does fit him, oddly enough. xD

I'm in an apartment, so I kind of have to be careful of what types of birds I have (due to noise level and whatnot) - but they let us have our cockatiels and budgies, fortunately. It was hard to find a place that allowed birds.

Maybe someday you'll be able to have a parrot. They're fun.

I think our previous downstairs neighbor had birds. I kept hearing chirping and I think I saw a bird cage through the window once. Not sure why they moved out. Maybe someone knew for sure that they had a pet. The only pet that is allowed here are goldfish. Can't even have a hamster or a reptile that will spend most of the time in their habitat...
A lot of macaws are REALLY noisy. I think the great greens are the noisiest that I've met. Hyacinth Macaws are pretty loud too and I suppose lorikeets can be noisy...especially when they are right next to your ear.

Our apartments don't allow pets, but they let us have our birds - I'm guessing they'd probably allow other small, caged pets, too - but we made sure they put the birds being allowed on our lease. So far, I haven't heard any complaints about them - the people in the building who have mentioned hearing them to me have mentioned that they enjoy hearing them. So, yay.

Macaws can be noisy, from what I understand, though I haven't ever had one, or anything. I want to see and/or meet a hyacinth macaw someday - they are so pretty! I've never met a lorikeet. I wish there were more parrot people around here - I don't really know any, except for my husband.

Awesome! Maybe that was the case with the others...either way I think I'd want them back...this years neighbors aren't super awesome, but they could be a lot worse (found the remains of someone partying too hard on the steps a few weeks ago..hasn't happened again and someone cleaned it up!)

I don't think Tracy aviary has any hyacinth macaws. The closest place may be either Zoo Boisy or Denver if they still have a pair, or Pueblo Zoo I think may have one. Been a while since I've seen one. I think the last spot I was at was at the Rio Grande Zoo or Akron in Ohio.

Lorikeets are awesomeee! I got to know a handful of individuals at the Oregon Zoo. One of the birds would come land on me regardless if I had food or not and would sometimes cuddle up on my shoulder. Then there was..I think 2 years or so ago babies that are a real handful. They'd land on people in a flock (~5 lorikeets at a time, depending how much arm/head space a person had). It was adorable. Until they found out they could bite people like they bite their siblings, and that they could steal earrings/nametags.

Ewwwww... fortunately, people don't party too much here, and it's fairly quiet. Which is good, because I like it that way. The main annoyance here is people smoking inside when they're not supposed to.

Lorikeets sound so adorable.
