So she casts something out of desperation because of the absence of the royal sisters? She didn't know the spell would have such effects, but had faith that it would help anyway. So much faith that she begged her friends to help, and it ruined them. She essentially single handedly threw the land into chaos when the princesses disappeared.

I like the concept.

Interestingly enough it was actually a spell to turn herself into an alicorn.

It's always good intentions that do the most damage.

Yes and in a way I feel each of the leaders of the five Houses have become Well-Intentioned Extremist (TV Tropes, look it up).

Antagonists who have an overall goal which the protagonists can appreciate in principle, but whose methods of pursuing said goal (such as mass murder) are problematic; despite any sympathy they may have with their cause, the protagonists have no choice but to stop them.

Which is really great when played right. If you can feel sympathy for a villain that you kind of don't want to be stopped, it hurts when they finally are. Bonus points if it's an already beloved character, like in this case.

Well I have actually put together a roleplay based on this setting.

Ah, I just assumed you knew the person who commissioned the pic.

Nope, I have just expanded what is stated clearly and even then most of my conclusions others would be able to make once they read through the information.
