I think the confusion comes from Okamiden. From what I'm hearing they muddied the heck out of the story, and referred to Shiranui at Chibiterasu's grandfather. *facepalm*

Some of the confusion comes from the translation from the original Japanese as the there are no gender-specific pronouns in the language such as "he""she""his" or "hers".For example, phrases such "his bike" or "her coat" translate as "the man's bike" & "the woman's coat".
Also I believe the translation for Okamiden was a rushed job to get the english-language version released in time.as sadly the game is riddled with typos & bad grammar.
And, yeah, to me, Shiranui is a girl

Yeah, that's probably it, too. It drives me INSANE. Especially since I study and follow Shinto religion xD

Folk Taoism here, which, since it allows for random adopting of deities from other regions... let's just say I facepalmed SO hard when Okami turned Raiden into a GHOST. WAT? XDDD (Though I tell myself it's because the REAL Raiden would probably scare small children LOL)

Like, it's still a fun story and I adore that game. And I'm sure Okamiden is a fun story too. But OMFG. At least keep continuity, sheeeesh. But then, it's Capcom's now, the original was writen by Clover, who I really wish still existed. Would have loved to see more from them.

I think a lot of stuff in the game would scare small children. o_o But yeah a lot of stuff that they changed like that just... didn't make sense. xD
Okami and Okamiden have great stories to them but it's so... weird compared to what it actually is told as xD Yeah, I would have liked to see more from Clover Studios though, they were pretty clever with their stuff.
