Ha ha, that is not a self-portrait, I've seen you and you're a ******lot****** prettier than your toad, even though it's very cute!

Oh, thanks May!! It's a bit strange for a toad, but I didn't know what else to call it. :D

You could even make up your own fantasmogorical name, as you invented it. I am supposed, as a young child, to have yelled out to mother "Quick, come and look at this kangaroopotomus bird!" (on TV). And it was an owl.

Oh, that's wonderful!! A "kangaroopotomus bird"!! That's so imaginative, and amazing. I wonder which type of owl it was, and I wonder why you linked "kangaroo" into it's name.

Considering I was a POM at the time it's even more amazing huh? She's never said what kind of owl it was. Maybe a hugely heavy yet bouncy one?

You were a Pom who already knew that she would love Australia and belonged over here!! :D

I think so :icondragonnod1: My life started in Australia when I met My Man. I'm very grateful for my memories of the countryside, flowers, animals and the experience of the places in the UK. And of course the opportunity I had to go to Europe every year for 11 years on our summer holidays, but you can draw a line under that. That's the total list.

I had an Australian teacher in late primary school and she taught us the singing 'round' 'Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree'. I loved it so much too. We thought she was crazy for shutting the classroom blinds on hot days but I understood as soon as I hit Fremantle on 4th January 1972! Well 5th Jan actually, as it was drizzling on 4th but was 105°F on 5th LOL

Strange, but my nephew - the one who died when he was 19 y/o & who was abused by my sister (his mother) & her husband - was born on January 4th. He would have been 7 y/o on Jan 1st, 1972. He died on an odd date - February 29th, 1984. The anniversary of his death doesn't fall on a calendar date every year - only leap years.

Did you ever sing songs & play musical instruments to "Let's Have Music" - the radio show on the ABC, when you were in Primary School? I remember those shows very fondly, because I loved music.

I've only ever been overseas once - to the north island of New Zealand for one week. My sister pushed me into it. I had no interest in visiting New Zealand, but I spent the money and went (mainly to be company for her shy friend). I've seen quite a lot of Australia, although I envy you having seen other countries. I would have loved to visit Egypt, England, Ireland, France & various other places. It's a real treat to have a future daughter-in-law who comes from London!! She has a very posh accent, and we all sound so Aussie-fied/Ocker/Brogan when we talk to her!! :D
