I use Macromedia FreeHand MX version 1102. I can't find any sort of timeline. The help file doesn't even list "timeline". Am I using a version too old???

This tutorial isn't for Freehand, it's for Flash. 
Freehand doesn't have a timeline because it isn't for animation, doesn't need one. Freehand has been done away with, after Adobe bought out Macromedia they stopped making it. MX is the last version.
