Why would 117 wear that?! Cheese! Also why is his visor cracked D: It ruins his awesome helmet.

Loch cracked it during their cut-scene battle.

I know that now, but back when I commented that, the game hadn't been released yet.

Camouflage of course.
Plus does he really want sand messing with his equipment? Remember Spartans can fall from space but lack the ability to swim.

If falling 2 kilometers from a crashing ship and surviving I don't think a little sand will do much to his armor, so he simply wants to have the same color as his surroundings.

And that's actually false, they can swim. If it weren't for the armor's weight of half a ton. Even if you can swim, you would still sink if you were that heavy.
Good point, the armor does weigh a LOT. I was just joking about how you die from getting in water (although it is kinda justifiable given the weight and deepens of the water).
I wasn't thinking of the sand eroding the armor or anything, more it gets in the suit and messes with it (more of an itch). Though the camo helps.

In the halo novel Halo: The First Strike, Two Spartan IIIs had to  take of their Armour to keep from sinking.

Halo: Ghost's of Onyx said that Blue Team (Fred, Kelly, Will, and Linda) did a mission in the Pacific Ocean to destroy a group of Covenant soldiers looking for something down there.
Tom and Lucy, yup. Though they did wear inferior SPI armor and keep in mind there was battle damage-could've caused a leak or two.

Ah, yeah. Exactly.

Well, anyway. It's probably secure, I mean, it's made to survive in vacuum too, it's probably sealed tight.
Indeed, apparently you even have a 90-minute oxygen supply.
Chief's cloak: Provides decent visual camo, might help keep sand out of his armor-it is airtight but John probably notes it as a side benefit if it's true, if not I'm*sigh*incorrect, although his visor seems damaged but it is just a trailer meant to get us hyped up-AND makes him look like a badass in priority of importance, and it's not one of those poser looks! (No offense intended).

Yeah, sounds logical. But the visor doesn't look uh, broken, I mean it has some cracks but it's still intact.

Whatcha' mean by poser-looks?
