Good solid points. However the Mark 1 Jaegers had a nasty unforseen side-effect: They were (as Pentecost says in the film) "scrapped together in 14 months." As such this meant they didn't have proper reactor shielding and many of the Mark 1 pilots often ending up dying of radiation sickness. The only remaining Mark 1 pilots in the story proper of Pacific Rim are Stacker Pentecost (who is dying due to radiation sickness), Herc Hanson (who now pilots the Mark 5 Australian Jaeger Striker Eureka along side his douche of a son Chuck) & Sasha & Aleksis Kaidonovsky (the Russian husband & wife team who pilot Cherno Alpha the only remaining Mark 1 Jaeger still in service).

So. The Mark's are unstable with radiation, but their main power source is a nuclear source. So if other Jaegers DONT have this power source, they will probably not have great shielding against the radiation?

Oh no. After this discovery, the PPDC installed improved reactor shielding on all following Jaeger series. Also Mark 2 & 3 pilots started taking Metharocin to help prevent radiation sickness should the shielding become damaged in any way/shape/form
