Well, there are the bezerkers, they would do things to invoke holmgangs* as a way to shake people down. I would guess Hiccup would frown on that, once he found out.

I have an idea of what Holmgang is, that it's a sort of honor duel. But I don't think Hiccup would allow Berserkers to ensnare him so easily.
No but he would get involved because they are doing it to other people.
That is a fair point. But Hiccup would need stern negotiating skills to deal with more brutal tribes.
He'd be able to use aggressive negotiations....with dragons.
