Well, she was made over the course of 5 days at Dragon Con (held in Atlanta over the Labor Day weekend) as an ongoing needle felting demonstration. The process is really simple. You take fiber and stab it with a barbed felting needle to create a felted mass and just work it from there.
If you have the desire to make one, don't let me stop you. Art is the process of creating to please yourself and others. If you want to make a mermaid, dragon, or mask, have a blast. Just don't copy outright. Seems to be silly to do that, anyway. Go and have fun, 'cause that's what it's all about.

oh, I'm sorry for the missunderstanding, I wasn't thinking of copying! I just thought that the technique looks interesting and wanted to know a little bit about it. I had some bad experiences when asking people about "their" techniques, but I just couldn't resist asking you, 'cause she looks amazing! and to be perfectly honest, I've so many things going on with my jewelry making I'm too busy to try something like this! one day, maybe!

I hope that you do try this. It's just as simple as you please. Stab multiple times and take out your aggression while making something cool. I've seen needle felted jewelry and necklaces made. Some incorporating amazing lamp glass beads and pendants.
And you can create bas relief by combinations of layering and pinching and stabbing. If the opportunity ever presents itself, try it. You can make a 4x4 panel/pouch in about an hour.

You can incorporate, feathers, hair, fur, grasses, tinsel, synthetics, yarns, fabrics, dryer lint (if the fiber is long enough), write your name with a thread, and the list keeps on going. I have yet to exploit the art form and I keep coming up with ideas.
I have incorporated beads and pendants in my work as well and all I had to do was make a few stabs to anchor the items in the body of the piece. Can you imagine a doll covered in milagro and stamped findings, highlighted with lampwork beads or similar?
