*nods* It does seem very medieval, but that's just perfect IMO :) *snags*

Wow! So cool!! It is a shame that they have to put the books behind wire, it seems very medieval.

this guy liked his occult books and tbh there are some pretty damn rare books in his collection .. there are books dating back to the early 1600's .. Ordanace survey books from the 1700's (Ordanance survey being the UK's mapping people .. bit like US rand McNally I think) and other books .. twas so cool to be able to get here :) thanks too for the :+fav:

Brittish occult books! That sounds so amazingly cool!!!!

I'm going to go out on a limg, here, and say that normal walk-in visitors cannot read said books, huh?

Why on earth would he want ordance surveys???

Lol yep your right the general public can't just get the books out and read them (think Lannt would still be there if they coold) youcould stroke and caress the spines though ... 400 year old books you'll sorta understand the whole "stroke and caress the spines" comment ;) ...

As for Ordnance Survey .. as I said before they are the UK's mapping department [link] as Walter Scott was a traveled man and a man of litracey he probably hade an interest in the local areas or just plane wanted to show off his collection of books :)

Yes, stroking and carressing the spines of 400 year old books does sound oddly appealing. When, in truth, it should sound oddly fetish-istic. But I doubt that was what you meant.

I don't think I would ever leave if they let me read those occult books either!!

I think that Sir Walter was just trying to impress the locals with the books. They wouldn't give a rat's patootie if he had the only surviving books from the Alexandrian library but if he had books detailing the entire landscape of England THAT would be impressive to them!

... Myself, I'd prefer the Alexandrian library.

And when we're talking about occult, we're talking "The Rituals of Satan" and "Witchcraft of Pendle" (One of the more well read ones lol) Yer... the guy had a serious thing going on with the occult - having said that you can probably make out quite a few of the names in the full view :D and oohhhhh bbboookkkssss  I was seriously unhappy that I wasn't allowed to sit in a corner and read until my eyes bled *sigh*

Awesome :). Would you mind getting some books in smaller groups and individuals?

I'd love to try and make a better book in Photoshop sometime, a referance stock would be perfect.

That would be so cool to read "Witchcraft of Pendle!!" "Rituals of Satan" sounds like marvellous fun too! I would have read until my eyes bled too!!

And why is it that all of the more interesting books in a library are never excessable to normal people?? You have to pay a sizable donation to be able see the cool books!!! Which sucks when you have no money to buy them with.
