Thank you so much! Every season seems to improve a bit. I'm anxious to see what this year brings! I hope I can finally ditch this portrait lens this year for a proper macro one. I actually like it, though. Keep a steady hand, mate!

will do ;)

I look forward to seeing some more!!!  get a 105... and a 28mm to reverse...  I picked my 28 up for cheap, it is a 28mm 3.5 Ai that can be got for under 100$ on ebay and it produces shots like this when reverse mounted...

I have a 50mm that I've reversed before, but I can't remember why I don't use it. For whatever reason, the 18-55mm seemed to do a better job or had more control. *sigh* I forget. For budget reasons, I'll have to try your suggestion. Think I'm still going for a 100mm, but I'd like some other options too. Do you piggyback the 28mm on your 105?

I never reverse a lens on another, because I figure the less glass the better.  I've seen incredible work with the 18 55 reversed... and that is one hell of a little lens despite the awful distortion at the wide end.

the 28 alone gives almost 2x life size I think, and is a very comfortable range to shoot in... but jumpers are so small I think a 24mm reversed, alone, would be perfect for most.  I've been using a 19mm reverse mounted lately, which gets right around 3:1 life size and the working distance is short, but not much worse than the 28.  True macros are better because you can still work through a bright viewfinder, but the fact that they only get you to life size really comes up short with juming spiders in particular.  I'm about to try out some automated extension tubes with my 105 because I'm getting really sick of that dark viewfinder.
