Who was it in the original myth?
Technically Chibiterasu was not from Japanese mythology. However, in the myths Amaterasu was married to the moon god Tsukiyomi no Mikoto. But then again Okami is very loosly based off of various myths and most of the characters have very different roles/very different personalities from their namesakes (ex. Susano was Amaterasu's brother in Japanese mythology and a massive troll who sent his sister into hiding with his antics whereas his Okami counterpart is a braggart hiding his insecurity of having to live up to his ancestor's exploits). In other words, who the hell knows.
As a side note, Waka was the only other person to make it up to the Celestial Plain with Amaterasu, so make of that what you will.
