I'll be focusing mostly on commissions soon anyway.
I personally like to separate the two, since I usually associate cute with youth and innocence, and sexy with maturity and deviousness. Two completely different sides for me. Though I do appreciate when they're both portrayed, I personally prefer to draw them separate. Then again what I consider cute is not what others consider just cute, so I think we're all even there.

Separating the two does make it easier to portray an idea that you're going for, and to target a specific audience. But there is always a way to find the perfect balance, so I'm hoping that I'm not just talking a whole bunch of nonsense! To me, personally, showing off a bit of the body in a natural, tasteful way is quite sexy, but at the same time, she just looks freaking cute too. I guess that would be my humble opinion, and my reasoning behind it all.
You're not talking nonsense! Everyone has their own outlook on the whole cute/sexy thing (cause I've actually seen some extensive debate about it). I just personally like it separate, however with me; what some might consider sexy still falls under what I consider to be "only cute". I guess it's my minds way of cheating :I
