I've been planning to make a unicorn fawn for almost a year and haven't find the time (not a taxidermy mannikin to work with LOL).

The result is absolutely great. I really love it!

Oh, sorry, I meant "but I can't find it here NOR in the UK". Not "not" but "nor"! LOL. So yes, I'm actually from Spain and live in Barcelona. For now I've been looking for mannikins here in Spain and in the UK (online) with no results. I suppose France and Belgium will be next in the list to continue searching.

You're right, I suppose too that fawns are not killed for hunting purpose in first line, but who knows. There are also some hunters and taxidermy collectors who don't care too much about moral or legality. Finding a recently dead fawn in the forest still in good condition for taxidermy must be very difficult. I'm used to find old skulls and spines, but I have never found a recently dead big animal like a deer in the woods (well, I once found a cow in a river but that was only once lol). I don't know if deer farms are very common, but anyway I think getting a fawn isn't as easy as getting an adult specimen, so that could be the reason why taxidermy suppliers here don't use to sell these kind of mannikins. I will continue my searh, though!! lol

Thank you very much!

I just red your journal and know about your lack of time, but if you get the chance making a unicorn fawn, I'd love to see with what you come up! :meow:

I will try to make one, but I'm still looking for a taxidermy mannikin. I suppose I will have to make it myself lol

By the way, I have found a store in Spain selling other manniquins and  I am very tempted by an adult roe deer. I think I will make one! I don't care I won't have space at home for it lol

I am also thinking about making an enfield, but it is always the same story: I have a terrible lack of time.

Are there no taxidermy online shops in Spain who sell fawn mannikins? Or neighbor countries where you could order?

Though something like an adult unicorn is for me interesting too, it really itches under my nails to try a big cat again. I'd LOVE to see how your life sized deer/unicorn project turns out! ..And who needs space at home when you can crawl underneath your furniture ;)

Enfield? The motorcycle? Sounds like a lot of fun! You know, things like that are perfect as side projects! Days should have 32 hours!

I don't know if there is a shop selling fawn deers in Spain, but I can't find it here not in the UK! I ave to investigate more, but I suppose killing deer fawns here may be illegal so shops don't sell mannikins for them. However, I will contonue searching.

When I said Enfield I meant the mythical creature, not a motorcycle!! LOL

Enfields are kind of winged/feathered foxes with eagle upper claws. They are usually depicted in heradrly all over Europe, but are very unknown creatures, though. The kind of thing you see in a crest and think: "Oh, a winged dog", but it is actually a mythological creature with a name  LOL

XD OMG I am totally not up to date with mythical creatures - i am SO sorry :ashamed:

THAT sounds actually even more interesting then the bike! :meow:

I-I thought you live in Spain? Now i am confused. Help.
I don't think fawns get killed for hunting purpose in first line. I think they die most of natural causes or will put down if they are not able to survive.

Oh, sorry, typing error! I meant "but I can't find it here NOR in the UK". Not "NOT" but "NOR"! LOL

Yes, I'm actually from Spain and live in Barcelona. I've been searching for mannikins here and in online UK shops with no result, so I think next in the list will be France and Belgium.

I neither think fawns are hunted in purpose, or at least I wan't to think they are not, but I'm sure there are hunters and taxidermy collectors who don't care too much about legality or moral in this matters. Finding a recently dead fawn in nature must be difficult. I least I am very used to find old deer and boar skulls and spines, but never found a recently dead big animal like a deer, adult or fawn. I don't know If there are many deer farms but getting a dead fawn legally for taxidermy purposes doesn't seem to be the easiest thing, so I suppose many taxidermy suppliers prefer not to sell these mannikins.

However, I will continue my search for the perfect fawn mannikin! Lol

Aaahhh! Now it makes sense to me :D

This online shop has only one fawn, but maybe this helps. hauser-tierformen.de/hausersho…
I used to buy there glass eyes. The service is great (both email + phone), maybe they ship to spain too!

I know that at the time when fawns are born, the mother does never leave the baby alone. So, if a female deer gets shot during this time, the hunters would search the near surrounding to see if a fawn is there. At a deer farm i guess, a fawn who did not survive, is discovered fast and will stored in the freezer for some interested customers. :/ Actually i have no idea. Don't believe what i say :ashamed:

I find skulls, horns, antlers and massive teeth all the time on our ranch. It's always exciting when i find something and on the way back to the barn deers are crossing my way XD A little bit scary..! I have a huge respect of these animals.
