I completely understand, most countries are different and it would be hard to get used to a different lifestyle.
Yeahhh... a lot of people here are patriotic about America and it can get really annoying. One time I was at this restaurant and this guy had his ringtone as "America, Fuck Yeah" and started singing along with it. Sure, it was kind of funny, but annoying because he was singing pretty loud in a high tone, I wanted to ask him to stop, but... I thought it was rude, even though he was being rude himself.
Technically, if you were born in America, you're an American, even if you don't have Native American blood in you. Though, not all black people are from Africa, dearie... 
It does have a few nice things, I agree with you there. The holidays can get ugly though. Example: Hurricane Sandy kind of fucked up the place where I live. So they uhhh, moved Halloween to a different day xD. Christmas is just craziness... people will fight over buying the last present. :/
Yes, we are quite friendly over here, but... people who work at shops ask you "How are you?" and they only do this so their kindness tempts you to buy something even if you don't want it. Actually there was a guy who said they're not even this kind in England.
