For whatever reason I was thinking that foxes and dogs didn't share the same genes. But now that you said that I can see a lot of the fancy colors are just normal dilutions, not special genes or whatever.

I didn't take the picture but the fox is from the San Juan islands, which were originally captive breed foxes who were released into the wild, according to the article 
That's really cool, I wonder what other mutations exist there and if they hinder/help their hunting ability at all. I'd love to see a Marble fox strolling through my backyard!
