I've been blown away by your pencils but I'm less familiar with your inking of others work. It can be a bit of a different skill (as I'm sure you are most aware), one which I would not presume you to be equally adept at and yet you are; brilliantly in tune with the pencils. Awesome!

Well the pencils are actually my own, so yeah I was pretty in tune with the pencils! HA! But I do appreciate the compliment! And you're right, there is no reason to assume that a penciller can ink, or an inker can pencil. But I will say this. 9 out of 10 big name inkers are also very talented pencillers. And the same can be said for the vice versa. In order to really develop into a higher level inker you have to have a very good understanding of pencilling. And again, the same thing for the vice versa. The more you learn about inking, the more you incorporate those things into the pencils, and the same for pencils!

D'OH! Yeah, it's like you were inside that penciller's head! Sorry, guess I was misreading your notes. You do make a very good point. I know a professional inker who is a long time friend who is not a penciller... which is not to say he is not capable. Indeed professionals working at your level are almost certainly proficient at both however when it comes to inking another person's work, it may just be my opinion (because you would certainly know better than I) that not all inkers are created equal. I find some too exactly follow the penciller, which isn't so bad as when some inkers bury the penciller beneath their work but I think really good inks can be when both styles show through and yield results greater than the sum of their parts.
