I'm not so much a fan of Lovecraft or even his stories as I am a fan of the sort of things that seem to be derivative of the atmosphere or wild monsters; therefore, I rather like this drawing. This could be one of the special vaults in the Museum of Unnatural History located at my own knockoff of Miskatonic University that I call the Muscadine University. 
Ah, I think we're on the same page, Chicky. I can't remember exactly, but I think your impression of this picture is pretty much what they asked me to convey. For my part, I'm fascinated by that aspect of Americana that is truly Gothic and haunting.
