On the one hand, I feel young and wish to live forever. But on the other, most of my bucket list is complete. In general, 80 years is long enough for most folks. I do want to age gracefully without losing my dignity or becoming a burden on those around me.

I think it is awesome that you have a vial of mirror shavings fro the Keck. It must be a profound thing to hold that in your fingers and know what it represents.

As to humans being civilized enough to deal with longevity, I think we need to stop being savages first. Perhaps one day we will realize that money does not make the world go round and love is all we really need. We have a long way to go in order to become galactic citizens.

You should always have scones with your tea, Mate. Aye.

Wow, I'm drinking tea as I read this! (don't have any scones, alas)
I don't think we will become more civilized at all, in general, until something about our lives changes, and my conceit is that we need to live longer to achieve that.
I have a LOT of things left to do, and one is being around when we finally, officially meet aliens.
One of the others is to create a model city, with a new approach to society, sustainability, and the future.
Way too much to get to in the next decade or two, and yeah, no diapers for me.

A society not based on mutual love and trust is doomed to failure. You would think that as intelligent critters we would remember enough history not to repeat our mistakes. But we are blind fools, rushing into the next big trend created by people who have nothing better to do than control others with their money and the positions of power it creates. As long as we act like that, it is unlikely that any alien species with our best interests in mind will ever contact us. I am thinking more of the aliens who would herd us as a possible food or DNA source. We are sheeple. That is the way advanced races see us. We are a virus out of control, infecting a beautiful world. The aliens surely have us quarentined, and that is putting it mildly...
