1) They think that sexuality is a choice/homosexuality is contagious. It's not. Like I said in my paper, it's purely sub-concious. You don't look at someone and think, "I'll be attracted to them." You look at them and notice all the little things that get your heart rate going a mile a minute and the heat rising to your face. From what some of my gay/bi friends have told me, it's exactly the same way for them.
2) They think that if they meet someone gay, that person will be attracted to them, which may or may not be the case, and even if it is, that doesn't mean they'll make a move. They have tact (for the most part), and if it's someone you know really well, they probably know you're straight anyway and won't make any advances. Just like straight people are only attracted to *some* people of the opposite sex, gay people are only attracted to *some* people of the same sex. Taste in men/women varies among *all* people, not just heterosexuals.
And yeah, in Europe, they're generally more open to the idea. A lot of the European Union have already institutionalized some form of same-sex marriage. At least European politicians aren't as short-sighted as American ones. They recognize that sexual minorities are people too, and deserve the same rights.
(Side note, I think I'm going to move to Europe. Probably Germany. Once I'm done with college.)
Now all that needs to happen is for the Catholic church to wake up about the issue. >< I USE THEIR OWN HOLY BOOK AGAINST THEM, HAH! *brandishes Bible passages at the Catholics*
