I'm envious, I've never once taken a shot of the moon that came out as clear.
The moon is a pain in the butt to shoot for a lot of people. Many think that because it's night time, that you need a long exposure to shoot... that's not the case with the moon... it's much brighter than people think. You shoot the moon as if it were a bright sunny day... 1/ISO at f16 The sun is always shining on the moon... 
Ahh, that makes a lot of sense. My pics have always been extremely washed out and overbright, because I made the same assumptions about shutter speed..got it. I'll have to try again.
I had the same problem a bunch of times until someone pointed out that it's always sunny on the moon... I'd never thought about it before.
