Yeah I WOULD like to make my own content. But you know what? I've got a job. I've got a life. I have things I can't put down just to appease this sense of injustice. And the same goes for many people. They can't just up and make games that reach a mass market like Assassin's Creed does. They simply don't have the time, or resources, to do it. It's not that they don't WANT to... it's that they physically CAN'T due to circumstances.
But you know what they CAN do? They can voice their opinions on the internet. They can be HEARD. They can speak their mind and try to get the companies who make the decisions and make the games THEY want to play listen to THEM. Video games are an art form, but they're also consumer goods. They are products made to make money. If enough people say "hey, we want this," chances are SOME company is going to eventually listen to them.
And again, just because there ARE women working in the industry, doesn't mean that things are EQUAL. This is a HUGE concept you and others like you seem to keep forgetting. We're only JUST NOW getting use to the idea that women PLAY video games. Do you honestly believe that all that resentment, hatred, and bile about women in the industry is just not existent on the development side of things? When game companies actively tell producers "you can't have a woman in a game" do you honestly think that's NOT a problem?
Let's put it this way... in the film industry there are many female directors. But in the span of over a HUNDRED YEARS... only 4 female directors have been nominated for an Academy Award, and only ONE has won one. That's an industry that's over a hundred years old. Video games are only about 30-40 years old. Not even half that lifespan. Yes. Women exist in the games industry. But very few of them have the power and agency to actually affect positive change.
So yeah. Fuck you. The whole "just make it yourself and stop complaining" argument is a false equivalence dismissive piece of trite. And you sound like a smug, arrogant, dismissive, asshole when you regurgitate it.
