the original idea behind the rods from the gods was essentially a telephone pole of Tungsten with a rocket and some fins strapped on that would hit a target from space. What are they in this timeline?

They were that back during WWIII and the post war era, but these days they're a little more sophisticated, often being accelerated by a railgun before being fired or given additional boosters for atmospheric flight.
