Caught as we are in our own fences, we ae very much aware of the state of the world around us. Modernity and socio-political issues at the moment have it that survival and money are key to existence, and all other ideology is alien and confusing, like looking into the sun; blinding with uncertainty.
The wooden pallette to the left coul be seen as a raft; a way to escape confines and essentially survive.
The oil barrel can signify money and where most of it, and the fate of the world, alas, lies.
And we, in fences both of our own design, but provided by higher powers, can see where we'd like to be, but the length of our grasp is cut short by an ideological wire mesh.
