I use Gimp 2.8, this program has been my babe since 2008. It isn't very intuitive at first but when you get used to it it's hard to let go of it. It's free software, anybody can download it and give it a try www.gimp.org/
As for my tablet, it's the cheapest around, a Wacom Intuos S. (can't afford better for now)
