Eh... okay? For me, a small factor like that is a silly reason to pick a character.  A good match should be broad, evened out.  If you are laying cement on theground, you don't flatten out the part you intend to step on a lot, you flatten it all evenly, do you not?

That being said though, I feel that the match up is good enough.  We know more about the character of Death the Kid than we do of any of the witches.  The only real exception is Medusa and that match up makes no sense at all.  From what I can tell, based purely on the comment of your's that I see, you've based her character comparison on nothing more than her skills as a magic user.  I feel that personality is a more fitting guide than special abilities (sometimes even when a few of those special abilities are dead ringers for something the other character did once) especially in a world where all the main characters have access for spiritual abilities that defy physics.

Personally, I felt that Maka was the only other feasible choice for Twilight because of her anti social nature, obsessive studying, and passion for books (switching Rarity to Death the Kid I suppose because of their shared hang ups on aesthetics and style [not to mention their shared flares for showmanship and grace]).  Maka's far too melee oriented in combat though so she would only feel right for Twi outside of battle.

Ah, but Twilight isn't just a magic user, is she? It's her big thing, second only to reading.  Not just some special ability; her passion.  Would you make Twilight Sparkle the pampered, book-reading snob and Applejack the wizard who lives in the woods and solves mysteris of the universe?

There is Mabaa, who is one of the most powerful witches, able to make barriers, teleport, and a bunch of other fun stuff.  Then there's Kim, who is admittedly restricted mostly to healing.  Like I said before, Eureka Frog might also work, if only because destructive magical numbers? I dunno.

Eh, I suppose people just don't typically share my logic.  I like to balance between skill and personality, and this will be harder as I am not as up-to-date as some on Soul Eater.

That said? Gonna be honest.  I just really don't care for Death the Kid.  Not sure why, always found him annoying.  More "Rarity" than Twilight.  Might just be my opinion though.

Nah, you make some really good points.  I admit, it's been well over a year since I watched the series myself (which is a roundabout way of not admitting that I didn't even think of half of the characters that you just mentioned T_T maybe this sort of thing just isn't my forte).

Still, For the purposes of this particular crossover piece, I feel that it was best that Dstears stuck with the main cast.  Would you really want a crossover in which Twilight was rarely even seen?  I still say the the Maka/Death the Kid switch would be the most ideal for Rarity and Twilight if we were going to change something, but that's just me ^_^  Admittedly, whoever ended up playing as Death the Kid was going to be the od one out no matter who you chose given that his personality simply doesn't really fit any of them all that much.  Certainly not as perfectly as Rainbow Dash as Black Star and Fluttershy as Tsubaki, THAT is simply too perfect.

I also love Spike as Soul Eater as long as Rarity is playing Maka, but if we changed that I think AJ would be a good replacement for him for her wisdom and straight man routine (though Soul Eater's laziness could be a bit of an issue for the hard working mare).

Same time, I admit there's a logic to your argument that cannot be denied.  While Twilight would make more sense as a witch, we don't really know enough of any of them.  Seeing as 'Witch' and 'Sorcerer' are gender specific, we can't even make her Eibon.

Guess it depends on if you want her to be a main character or to fit her 'unicorn/alicorn' status.

After watching the first episode again, I'm rescinding my statement about changing Spike from Soul Eater.  It's actually a really good match for him now that I think about it (he is frequently the voice of wisdom to Twilight's irrational antics).  I was mainly wanting to play off of the Soul Eater/Black Star friendship when I thought of putting AJ in that roll (well, that and the fact that I could see her being a really big and heavy weapon like a scythe [lol, it's even a farm implement]).  Still, his laze streak and cool guy attitude kind of kills any similarity to AJ's roll he might have.  He puts on a show based on what he perceives to be "How cool guys act" and if that isn't Spike I don't know what is.

Maka's interest and passions mesh with Twilight's almost perfectly (though their personalities are far from being very similar).  Both Twilight and Rarity are pretty difficult to find good parallels for so I can certainly understand your desire to focus instead on the magic based parts of Twilight's character rather than her quirks.
^_^ still, you've got to admit that her OCD AND those iconic lines in her hair DO lend a bit of sense to the Death the Kid argument.  Whether that is enough to justify it is another story, but the visual appeal is definitely there.
