Say Randy, do they have chain control there in the winter? theres a city here called 'Truckee' up in the mountains. Don't let the name fool you, the scenery is quite breath-taking. not sure why, but that just occurred to me. 
Heya Jami, We do indeed have a chain law here in the winter. There's also a tire tread law as well on certain mountain passes.
I know Truckee well. That's where we stay when we are on our way to Sausalito. We love that area!
We used to come out on Labor Day weekend for the Sausalito Art Festival but we never had to worry about the snow though.
I came out one year in November to deliver some sculptures to a client in Tiburon, and I couldn't find a place to stay in Truckee because of the
skiiers taking all the hotel rooms. Man there was a lot of snow there!

AAaaa! ofcourse you would know! I should've known-that you would know. Well, I only just recently discovered it, but now that I know, I know. Its a hidden gem. then I take it you also know about Donner Summit, Tahoe, and all that, wait, ofcourse you do. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to go camping there with night vision goggles, when all the wildlife comes out at night.

There's a really beautiful trail that takes you around Donner Lake.
It's so peaceful that you can't believe there's a busy highway not too far away.
The trees drown out the sound of the traffic.
I would LOVE to hang out with night vision goggles and see what I could see!
I'm all over anything involving nature.
Usually when I hike back there, it's super early in the morning before anyone else is out there.
I get annoyed with too many people and people noise.
We haven't checked out much else just because we have always needed to get back on the road to
make it in to Mill Valley to check in to our next hotel.
Pulling a trailer with big bronzes down Highway 101 was a bit nerve racking.

so I take it you only went in the summer months. Picture pulling a trailer during chain control, thru blizzard n' snow over the summit. 
I often wonder what life would be like as a trucker encountering that on a daily basis. hmm, you know what-I suddenly just gained a whole lot more respect for truck drivers-this hydrocal doesn't just appear out of nowhere. but ya, im starting to develop a fondness for Truckee.

It was indeed only the summer months other than that one time that I delivered bronzes by myself when there where was snow.
Also, many many years ago, a buddy and mine took a spring break road trip and traveled from Minnesota to San Diego and then up the coast
to San Fransisco. On the way back we got stranded in Truckee for the night because of the snow.
I agree...truck drivers are a special breed.
I could only handle a certain amount of road tripping. I miss our furry kids to stay away for too long.
I really do want to make a trip out there when it's not a working vacation so I can enjoy Lake Tahoe etc.
I still want to stay in Truckee though.
